Jonathan Kaufman (he/him) is a Co-Founder and Principal at Third Plateau, where he collaborates with nonprofits, foundations, and social entrepreneurs all over the world, helping them expand and deepen their social impact. He specializes in business and strategic planning, team culture, board development, program design, and organizational innovation for a wide array of Third Plateau’s clients.
He began his career on the front lines of the nonprofit sector, addressing hunger in Chicago, homelessness and mental health in Los Angeles, and refugee rights in Athens, Greece. In these roles and through Third Plateau, Jonathan has built a knack for challenging long-held assumptions, imagining a better future, and building meaningful programs that can deliver.
Jonathan holds a B.A. in Religious Studies from Vassar College and an M.B.A. in Nonprofit Management and Social Entrepreneurship from WashU in St. Louis, where he graduated at the top of his class, was a Danforth Scholar, and received the Dean’s Award for Corporate Social Responsibility. He is an instructor of social innovation at Hebrew Union College, a guest lecturer on entrepreneurship at the UC Berkeley Haas School of Business, and serves on the National Board of Advisors for Improve Your Tomorrow. Jonathan lives in Sacramento with his wife and two kids, plays every instrument he can find, and is on a mission to cook the world’s most perfect steak.
