Co-Founder & Principal

Daniel Kaufman (he/him) is Co-Founder and Principal at Third Plateau. He is a creator, connector, and collaborator focused on building purpose-driven communities and helping ambitious leaders and philanthropists find their path forward. Daniel leads Third Plateau’s long-term strategy and has helped build a team that has advised and managed more than $2B in family philanthropy and guided hundreds of nonprofit organizations.

An entrepreneur at heart, Daniel serves as a mentor, advisor, and strategist for nonprofit executives, philanthropists, and civic leaders. He has designed participatory grantmaking programs, helped foundations rethink how they operate, and served as a trusted thought partner for leaders navigating complex decisions. He brings genuine enthusiasm to helping organizations evolve, learn, and grow.

Prior to founding Third Plateau, Daniel launched the Giving Circles Fund, an online platform designed to make philanthropy more accessible, engaging, and meaningful for the next generation of givers. He has also served as in-house counsel for an educational services company and as an attorney at a large international law firm. Daniel holds degrees from Stanford University and UCLA School of Law.

Daniel lives in Sacramento with his wife Talia, kids Mia and Eli, and their dog Mochi. He is still searching for the world’s best taco.
