Position Overview

Position Overview: Third Plateau, a growing multi-disciplinary social impact strategy firm, is looking for a self-directed professional to serve as a Staff Accountant on our Finance team. Under the guidance of Third Plateau’s Finance Director, the Staff Accountant will work with external philanthropic management clients to provide administrative and financial support. Top candidates will be highly organized self-starters, able to work under tight deadlines, able to juggle multiple assignments simultaneously, and be hungry to learn.

Location: United States - any location, with access to office space and the majority of Third Plateau team members in the Bay Area and Sacramento, California. Please note that being authorized to work in the U.S. is a precondition of employment and Third Plateau, as we are not able to sponsor applicants for work visas at this time.

Starting Annual Salary (Non-Exempt): $65,000 (position will be eligible for annual bonus and salary increase after first year)

What You'll Do

The Staff Accountant will serve as an integral part of the Third Plateau team. Under the guidance of Third Plateau’s Finance Director, the Staff Accountant will provide administrative and financial support to external philanthropic management clients. Duties include, but are not limited to:

  1. Finance Support
    1. Entering and reviewing client debit and credit card transactions;
    2. Reconciling bank and credit card transactions;

    3. Inputting invoice and payment information into QuickBooks and reviewing for accuracy;

    4. Assisting in preparing of quarterly, annual and interim financial statements;
    5. Inputting and reconciling client investment accounting;
    6. Inputting and reviewing client grant awards and payments;
    7. Compiling board reports and financials; and
    8. Supporting internal accounting procedures as needed.
  2. Grants Management Administrative Support
    1. Coordinating payment of grant awards with grants managers;
    2. Completing annual statement of information filings for philanthropic management clients;

    3. Assisting in maintaining audit-worthy records of grants awarded; and

    4. Serving as a bridge between finance and grants management teams to help build streamlined processes and ensure effective client service.

Other important things to note:

  • The Staff Accountant will have a commitment to quality client service and own your work product. You should have some experience in your background that demonstrates the attention to detail, timeliness, and the ability to follow directions while juggling multiple tasks needed to be successful in this role.

  • Top candidates will have nonprofit accounting experience with the ability to pick up new skills as needed.

  • Fluency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and QuickBooks is a must.
